You Are Number One!

Every once in awhile you need a break from being a total badass feminist. As you stand up for what you believe in, support your tribe, and have a great personal/work life, it is important to schedule in a little me time. I used to think that I would schedule the rest of my life and then hope the me time happened around it, but I soon discovered that if I didn’t schedule self-care then it often led to no self-care. So I’ve started to make sure I dedicate time for self-care everyday.

Here are a few things you can do to make sure you’re taking care of yourself:

Daily journaling is always the goal I set, but then I am honest with myself and decide to journal whenever  life is overbearing. I have severe anxiety, and whenever I feel like I am having too many thoughts and worries I like to write it out. Sometimes I just write a stream of thought entry about my worries, sometimes I make lists about the steps I can take to relieve my stress, and other times I pretend that I can draw and make some doodles. The catharsis of putting something down on paper grants me a sense of being unchained from my anxieties.

Take a walk, go for a swim, just MOVE!

Exercise makes me feel productive, and it has done wonders for my anxiety. If possible do some sort of physical activity outside where you can get some sunshine!

Call your girlfriend.

Sometimes what you really need is someone to talk to, and who better to do that with than your sisters?!? I live in a different city than my female friends, and sometimes picking up the phone and calling them is the only thing that gives me strength.

Watch tv, read a book, or play a video game.

When everything in my world sucks, I like to entertain the idea that I can escape into another one.

Sometimes we grow anxious about the things we support being attacked. A good way to counteract that is to volunteer with an organization that supports a cause close to your heart. Not only are you supporting the cause, but you get to take some time away from your priorities and gain perspective.

Pet an adorable animal.

Because you deserve it. I suggest miniature donkeys because yeah, those totally exist.

Just make sure you take time to do things you enjoy because you are important and deserve to treat yo’self!
