Failing Is Winning

Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.
– Oprah

Failure is a constant topic in my life lately. Whether it be failed relationships, jobs, or even dreams, some things just don't work out and that is completely okay. Failing at something doesn't mean that you're a "failure." Without failure, there would be no measure for success. If we always succeed on the first try, we wouldn't appreciate triumph, perseverance or grit.

For example, I just enrolled in college classes. Being terrible at math, I had to take a course placement test, which assigned me to a basic college math class. But that's okay! Starting from the bottom allows me to rebuild and improve my math skills. Triumph.

Failed relationships are another GREAT example. My last relationship was a doozy! I learned a lot about myself, including my expectations of a partner. Most importantly, I learned that I WILL NOT SETTLE. Even through heartbreak and tears, valuable life lessons were learned. I will pick myself up and try again. Grit.

I have days where I feel like I am failing as a parent. On particularly hard days, I must explain to my kids why I don't have money for their activities, why their other parents aren't coming to an event, or why boys are jerks. Though I may view these as failures on my part, I am teaching my kids to be stronger and how to cope with difficulties in life, such as money management and rejection. Perseverance.

Oprah is dead-on with her quote. Failing at something pushes us to work harder and become better. Failure IS an option. Giving up is NOT an option. Keep trying. Keep pushing forward. Don't be afraid to fall. A better you will emerge from the ashes. At the end of the day, I want to be a better person than I was yesterday. I will embrace my failures and see them as lessons. I either win or I learn - so either way, I win. I hope my fellow badass women will do the same!
