Be A Goal Digger

I always tell others to "chase your dreams and never give up in life." For the last few years, I have struggled with figuring out what I want to do with my life. I have done everything backwards (according to society's standards anyway), but this doesn't bother me. Conforming to what others think I should be has never interested me.

My daughter was one year old when I graduated from high school. By nineteen years old, I was married, pregnant with my second daughter, worked in a supervisory position in a factory, and owned a home. I believed that I was seriously accomplished at such a young age. But in a few short years, my "dream life" crumbled - my marriage ended and I lost my house.

Now after much work, I am back on top. I own a home and a nice vehicle, and I am a nurse. This journey was far from easy. I was in nursing school full time, worked every weekend, and raised my young daughters as a single mom. But I prevailed by graduating from nursing school.

I believe that I have restless soul syndrome, which is a sense of perpetual restlessness and a longing to do more. It sounds better than saying I get bored frequently, doesn't it? I tried different nursing jobs and returned to school to study business, social work, and psychology. Still, a feeling of restlessness clung to me.

Then a small, mundane event inadvertently inspired my next goal. This event was watching a Netflix show, The Ranch, with my brother. In the show, the main characters own a bar. Then it clicked for me - my future goal is to own a bar/restaurant! I have always wanted to own a business but could never decide on the type of business to own. It makes perfect sense to me. It will not be easy, and there is a lot to learn about the bar/restaurant industry. Still, I haven't felt this passionate about something in a long time. It is a goal that has truly sparked my inner badass, and I am taking my own advice to heart.

Don't be afraid to chase your dreams. Those dreams and goals that scare you a little (or a lot) are the best ones! And PLEASE don't let anyone tell you that your dreams and goals are unattainable. With hard work and dedication, you can make things happen! Be a dream chaser and a goal digger! I am.
