Healing Abandonment: Piece By Piece

"Piece by piece he collected me off the ground where you abandon things."
~Kelly Clarkson~

A few weeks ago, a very pregnant Kelly Clarkson sang one of the most emotional, inspiring, poignant songs that I have heard in a very long time. It was such a real moment. There are so many of us that had shitty dads or just shitty people in our lives. So many people that walked away. So many of us that were left broken. Those people really shaped who we are and the things that motivate us. Those people pulled us down. They burned holes in us that stay.

But you know what? There are kind, amazing people out there too. They will be there for you. They love you and build you back up. Sometimes it's a spouse, sometimes a friend, sometimes your child. These are the people we all need to focus on when those holes burn. These people help us to pick up our pieces and put ourselves back together.

This song has been on my mind since I heard it a few weeks ago. I listen to it almost every day as a reminder that I am so blessed to share my life with some amazing people. Life is hard, and I've dealt with some shit, but I am forever thankful for the people in my life that hold me together. Please watch the video and be thankful for the people in your life. Celebrate them, and celebrate them often. Then become that person for someone else. Oh, and have some tissues handy.
